A growing number of our customers are now watching digital TV with a motorised satellite system as it’s popularity increases. There are many benefits associated with this type of installation, the biggest one being that you can move the dish around to pick up a variety of channels from around Europe. It is also very advantageous if your first language isn’t English.

16-foot mast for satellite dish used on communal building

Trees are a common problem when siting a satellite dish, especially when they are in full leaf. Satellite reception is sensitive to leaves and branches that form what is known as a “diffraction grating” which scatters or blocks the signal to the dish.

To receive a good signal in such circumstances requires a roughly 60cm hole to be made through the offending tree - not always practical - or gain height for a clear line of sight for the dish by securing it to a tall pole affixed to the building.

The latter solution was employed recently, when we were required to fit a communal satellite dish to a building in Havant. For additional safety, we attached guy wires to the mast to provide additional stability, in case of bad weather and high winds.
